Mini Sessions for Newborns

Those first few weeks of life are some of the most important moments to capture.  Your baby will never be this small again and they grow and change so quickly.  As a mother, I want to document this precious stage for you - I want to give you something to look back on.  As a photographer, I want to create beautiful portraits that you will treasure forever!   

Over the last 6 years of photographing newborns, I have learned that most mother's want pictures of their baby but not everyone wants or needs a full newborn session.  The newborn mini session is the perfect solution.  It's great for those who want a short and sweet portrait session and a few of their favorite digital images.  

Mini session clients receive the same excellent customer service experience and access to the same portrait art options as other clients.  The only difference is baby is all wrapped up, the session is shorter (about an hour), and you qualify for special mini session pricing for upgrades!  

What is a Newborn Mini Session?

The Newborn Mini Session is a shortened version of a traditional full newborn session.  The session lasts approximately 45-60 minutes and baby is fully wrapped/swaddled during the majority of the session to help calm and soothe them.  They are photographed either awake or asleep and different wrap colors, bonnets, headbands, props and backdrops are used to create a diverse gallery of images.  The goal of the session is to create a beautiful gallery of approximately 15-20 final images for you to choose from.

And what I love most about this session below was all of the blacks, greys and whites! It’s just so classic! (Of course, I did add a couple of other colors to mix it up too)

I always go in to each and every session with some sort of game plan. With newborn sessions this is even more important because the session is already a little tricky considering that it completely revolves around a tiny little human!

With that being said, one of my most favorite images is something I can’t plan for at all! The super cute, must have, and sometimes elusive…..yawn!!!

You never know when it’s coming so I have to be quick with the shutter…..

Oh my gosh - a baby girl in my studio! I have had a ton of boys this year but only a handful of girls. So I was excited to break out the color pink and the pretty tie back! Of course, I always tend to gravitate toward the simple and natural so the rest of the session was very neutral! The funny thing is Mom mentioned that she loved the pink option but she ended up falling in love with this beautiful cream!

As a mother of 2 boys, I have a special place in my heart for other “boy families”. Especially when the boys are 4 years apart - just like my own family. I remember those early moments when my oldest was getting used to his little brother. The little looks he would give him - the quick hugs and kisses he would steal. So it was so touching to see this big brother and his obvious affection for his new little brother!

I always include older siblings in my sessions - because it’s not just about the new baby, it’s about the new family. I like to spend a little bit of time with the older siblings by themselves too - I want them to feel just as special as the newest member of the family!
